Recipes - Bridge of Don
Yesterday we found half an hour to grab a very quick lunch together and so headed for Recipes Cafe at the top of Jesmond Drive in Bridge of Don. Having been there many times when it under different owners (with a different name) we were curious if anything had changed. The interior was'nt all that different except on the main wall the massive picture was now of New York in black and white as opposed at a flower.
We got our seats on one of the comfy leather sofa and waited for our food to arrive. I ordered a club sandwich and my wife had the chicken and pesto along woth a side of chips.
When we ordered we asked for the food to come out ASAP as we did not have a lot of time and so was pleaseantly surprised when the waitress brought out the food in what seemed like less than 5 minutes. And then we had our next surprise - the sandwiches where HUGE!!
The club sandwich literaly towered above everything else - it looked like the type of sandwich you see advertised but never appears like that on the plate! Also included was some crisps, salad and coleslaw. The chicken and pesto sandwich had the same giant proportions too. Perhaps the chips were overkill when confronted with such large plates of food!
Thankfuly the sandwiches tasted as good as they looked too. Quality AND quantity was not something I was altogether expecting when I placed my order! The club sandwich had beautifuly toasted bread with quality bacon, succulent chicken and juicy tomatoes. The chicken and pesto had that rich and salty taste you demand from anything with pesto in it.
We are very much looking forward to going back - great value for money
